Wreathed hornbill

Rhyticeros undulatus

Wreathed hornbill

As with many species of hornbills, the male girds the female during brooding.

The female remains immured until the young hornbill is able to fly. During these few months, the male feeds the female and the young. It can make many trips to the nest to bring enough fruit.

There is a sexual dimorphism in the throat: the male has a yellow throat while the female has a blue one.
The young looks like the male.
